The Franco - Prussian War of 1870 - Sowing the Seeds for WW I
February 1870, marked the conclusion of the Franco - Prussian War that changed the balance of power in Europe for generations. With Paris starving, the French had no choice but an ignominious surrender. Great recommendation..! While Americans were blissfully living through the Gilded Age, France and Prussia/Germany were bloodletting on the continent in a war that led directly to U.S. involvement in both WW I & II. Huge reparations demanded by Germany led to same at Versailles. Anyone interested in WW I out to know about the Franco-Prussian war…a good, tense read too. Many famous battles you can’t quite place..now you know. Parisians starving? Impossible you say…
